Alas, no competition entry...

Unfortunately, I didn't get myself organised in time for the Dolls House and Miniature Scene competition but my ideas for the doll are still stashed away so something might come out of it after all.

Wouldn't this make a great dolls house?

These are pictures of a house I knew as a child. They were taken in 1896 when it was up for sale. I was thinking how it would make a brilliant dolls house but then I worked out that it would be over 4'6" wide in 12th scale!

Some of my previous work

Here's some of my previous work:

These Elizabethan dolls are some my first porcelain dolls. They're made from kits by Janet Harmsworth at www.minimannequins.co.uk and I spent considerable time researching the costumes. There were inspired by Shakespeare's Merry Wives of Windsor.

This old lady at the piano may have been inspired by my music teacher, Miss Robinson. This particular lady looks a little more benign than the real Miss Robinson who was absolutely terrifying!

I've also started making dolls houses. This one is a back-to-back house like those found in most English industrial cities in the latter half of the nineteenth century. This particular house is based on those found in Leeds where there are more-back-backs still in occupation than anywhere in England.

The house has a scullery cum entrance lobby, kitchen/living room and two bedrooms. Houses like this would have housed families of as many as twelve! I've decorated the house in colours typical of the early 1900s and I'm currently working on some gas lamps. I hope to sell this house through a local dolls house shop soon.

The first entry...

I thought I'd start this blog with a competition entry. I've got several male dolls in my store of doll-making supplies that are waiting for some inspiration so I've decided to enter the male doll making competition in November's Dolls House & Miniature Scene magazine. It's only the second magazine competition I've entered, so wish me luck and follow my progress here...
